THE FABULOUS The Baron, just having returned from the moon, finds himself in the court of the beautiful Marquisa d' Medici whose kingdom has been besieged by the Sultan Belwar for the past three months. The Marquisa is also surrounded by intrigues in her own court and the Baron is the only man she can truly trust to spirit past the Sultan's troops to deliver the secret document to the King. Such a mission, the Baron knows full well, may mean the ultimate sacrifice but for the Marquisa, it is the least he can do... These half life-size statues are based on the fantastic stories of the fictional character, Baron Munchausen - adventurer, statesman and ladies' man. Since the Baron is a German character dressed in 18th century fashion, I chose Frederick the Great as my costume inspiration. The famous Munchausen beard and moustache, though, are strictly Jules Verne, a marriage of history and fantasy. All the silver embroidery in the rococco style is handworked as well as the rhinestone breast order. The special silk and jet bead needlework was performed by Pauli Drissi, a veteran Hollywood artist whose credits include creating the beaded and embroidered gowns for The Titanic.
